SOUTHGATE ADVISORY COUNCIL

The Cathy Hudgins Community Center at Southgate Community Center Advisory Council (CHCCSAC) represents a network of individuals dedicated to the betterment of the Center and the overall community.  The Council's strategic plan which is currently in implementation includes the following components:
1) supporting and augmenting programming and resources at The Cathy Hudgins Community Center at Southgate
2) raising awareness of The Cathy Hudgins Community Center at Southgate in the local neighborhood and greater Reston community
3) fostering an increased level of engagement among members of the Council and volunteers at the Center.

DARLENA RICKS

Darlena Ricks currently serves as the Chairperson for the Southgate Community Center Advisory Council and has been a member since March 2012. She understands the needs of the community and has served in other leadership roles. She is also a marketing instructor and serves as the Awards Co-Chairsperson for the Apha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, Zeta Chi Omega Chapter. Darlena has her BBA in Marketing, MBA in Business, and Masters in Education Leadership. Darlena’s passions and hobbies include traveling, participating in community service, photography, and spending time with friends and family.

KELSEY MYERS

Kelsey Myers, is the current Vice-Chairperson on the Southgate Community Center Advisory Council, joining in 2019. She is a wife and mom of three who recently moved to the Reston area. She works as a marriage and family therapist and speaker who specializes in interpersonal neurobiology and community building. When she is not wrangling little ones, Kelsey enjoys crafting and photography, getting to know and serving neighbors, spending time with her friends and family, and reading

ANDY SIGLE

Andy Sigle currently serves as the Secretary of the Southgate Community Center Advisory Council and has been on the council since 2014. A former Chair of the Council, he is also involved in the community as a Reston Historic Trust Board Member, a SLHS PTSA Food Pantry co-founder and lead, and a member of The Reston Chorale.

GERALD S. PADMORE

Gerald S. Padmore has been on the Southgate Community Center Advisory Council since 2013 and currently serves as its Treasurer. In addition to his work for the Council, he also works for Inova Health Systems. Gerald loves his family, reading, and sports.

JAN BRADSHAW

Jan Bradshaw serves as the immediate past Chairwoman for the Southgate Community Center Advisory Council and has been a member since May 17, 2005, Jan is an original member whose knowledge has been an amazing asset. She also works for the Reston Community Center, was on the Reston Community Center Board of Governors for 6 years, served on the RCA (Reston Citizen's Board), and served on the Alliance of Clusters and Homeowner's Issues Committee. Currently, Jan volunteers on the Hunters Woods Neighborhood Coalition. Jan obtained her BA Cum Laude with a major in Sociology and a minor in Music, and has taken numerous computer certificate classes. Jan enjoys singing in the Encore Rocks Chorale, taking voice lessons, playing the flute, reading, walking, helping others, and getting together with friends.

CAROL ANN BRADLEY

Carol Ann Bradley has been a member of the Southgate Community Center Advisory Council for four years. She is also the President of National Council of Negro Women in the Reston/Dulles section. Carol has obtained a BE in elementary education and a M.ED in Inner City Studies. In her free time, Carol enjoys reading, gardening, yoga, theater, and collaging.

SYAZANA DURRANI

Syazana Durrani has been a member of the Southgate Community Center Advisory Council since June 2017. She is also a Neighborhood Ambassador with Cornerstones, teaches ESL at Southgate Community Center, and is trained to facilitate the National Alliance on Mental Illness’s Family-to-Family Education Class. Syazana is currently working on her Graduate Certificate in Imam and Muslim Community Leadership at Hartford Seminary. Syazana loves raising her two kids, reading and thinking about theology and why people do what they do. She cooks Malaysian food almost daily, loves teaching- helping others be their best selves, and thus allow others around them be their best too- a testimony to the ripple effect.

KATHY JONES

Kathy Jones has been a member of the Southgate Community Center Advisory Council since September 2017. She is also a part of the human trafficking support group in northern Virginia (NOVA HTI). Kathy obtained her BA from Howard University and MA from Virginia Tech. Kathy enjoys reading and listening to music in her free time and loves being around children.

MARYAM OVISSI

Maryam Ovissi has been a member of the Southgate Community Center Advisory Council since March 2017. In addition to her services to Southgate Community Center, Maryam is the founder and director of Beloved Yoga: A Sanctuary for All. Maryam is proud to have Beloved Yoga offer programs at Southgate Community Center for the commUNITY.
